Imran lodges complaint against Altaf

Daily Nation

LONDON - Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan on Wednesday lodged a formal complaint with the Scotland Yard seeking a criminal investigation into the ‘activities’ of MQM leader Altaf Hussain, including terrorism and money-laundering.

Imran also pledged to carry on the crusade till Altaf Hussain is ‘convicted’.

The complaint was lodged with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair on Wednesday morning since Altaf Hussain, chief of MQM, is a British citizen and lives in London, Imran told reporters in London

It is the clear responsibility of the UK police to ensure that a comprehensive investigation takes place into all of Altaf Hussain’s activities as soon as possible,” he said.

Imran Khan, who heads the Tehreek-e-Insaf party, said his lawyer has identified at least four areas of criminal activities against Altaf that the police should investigate.

They are terrorist activity relating to the events of the May 12, 2007 in Karachi in which 48 people died and some 200 suffered bullet wounds, incitement to violence, money laundering and torture.
Stating that it would be a ‘fight to the finish’, Imran sought to know who is funding the 40-member secretariat of MQM in London.

According to Imran, “There are 230 cases including 30 murder and 12 torture cases pending against Altaf Hussain in Pakistan.”

Imran said he had also received ‘death threats’ for taking up cudgels against the MQM leader and the connected letters would be forwarded to Scotland Yard.
